Arch Bridge Campsite
Delaware River The Arch Bridge leanto site represents an attractive opportunity to units, primarily because of its proximity to the Delaware River. The site, complete with 4 leantos surrounding a large clearing in the center, is located directly adjacent to the Delaware River, and provides direct access to enter and exit the river. Many units make use of the site as a convenient place to stop while canoeing down the river. Besides its functional use, the site is extremely picturesque, located at the point where the Ten Mile River (a tributary) empties into the Delaware River. A stone bridge was built over the Ten Mile River, enabling access to the Arch Bridge site, and other campsites further down the road. The famous TMR Red Dot Trail, which connects the entire reservation, passes by the Arch Bridge site, making it an excellent place to stop while hiking along the trail. Note: Due to weather conditions, this site is only available between April 15 and November 15.

Cathedral Pines County Park320 acre Cathedral Pines County Park, is located on the south shore of Long Island. The eastern edge of the park lies along the headwaters of the Carmans River, one of Long Island's two State Wild and Scenic Rivers. Facilities include campground with showers, picnic sites and the George Broome Memorial Activity Building. There are nature trails and a designated mountain bike loop trail. Adjacent to the park is the Prosser Pines Natural Preserve, with its majestic stand of white pines planted in 1812. While a great place for hikers, photographers and birdwatchers, the Preserve is off limits to biking. County residents can purchase a green key from the Suffolk County Department of Parks for reduced fee parking and other park activities (see website below for green key info). On weekends non-residents can park for a $5.00 fee and Green Key holders $2. Weekday parking is free. Bicycles can be ridden on existing paved or dirt roads, excluding hiking or horseback trails, in all of the active and passive Suffolk County Parks. The Cathedral Pines Mountain Bike Trail is a one way, mostly flat singletrack trail that passes through shaded woodland habitat, and loops around fields and open areas. There are benches along the way, if you feel like taking a break. This 6 mile loop trail, built and well-maintained by the Concerned Long Island Mountain Bicyclists (C.L.I.M.B.), is recreational cross-country mountain biking at it's best. While not technically challenging (few rocks and roots), the rolling terrain with its many twists and turns is challenging for the beginner and a fast, fun ride for more experienced mountain bikers. There are 3+ miles of additional spur trails with optional hill climbs for the advanced rider. It is also open during the winter months, while the popular trail at nearby Rocky Point Natural Resources Management Area is closed from November 1-January 31. Rocky Point Bike Map |

The Egg CampsiteThis rugged hike traverses the southeastern corner of Harriman State Park, climbing to several panoramic viewpoints and following the cascading Stony Brook. Seven Lakes Drive for three-quarters of a mile to the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center, on the right side of the road. On the southwest side of the parking lot (right when facing the woods), you will find a post with the red-on-white blaze of the Pine Meadow Trail. Follow the Pine Meadow Trail as it heads southwest, parallel to the Seven Lakes Drive. Soon, the trail bears left and heads uphill on a rocky path. After crossing a stream, the trail briefly turns left onto another woods road, then turns right, leaving the road, and continues to ascend. Soon, the trail levels off, and the footpath narrows. The HTS Trail follows a level woods road for about a third of a mile, then turns left, crosses a stream, and climbs rather steeply on a woods road. After gaining about 300 feet in elevation, the trail turns sharply left and climbs very steeply over rocks, emerging at a viewpoint to the southwest. It bears left and soon climbs some more to a rock ledge, just below the summit of Ramapo Torne, with an expansive view over Torne Valley and Ramapo Valley, traversed by the New York Thruway. |

Provisional Summer CampLocal councils provide a Provisional Camping option for a boy to attend summer camp when his troop is not at camp. Benefits include: Boy Scouts can still attend camp even if they cannot attend with their own troop. Boy Scouts can attend additional weeks of summer camp. Boys have the opportunity to meet new friends from across their local council. New Scouts may attend a week at a local camp if their troop is going to a camp farther away. Older Scout may participate in special programs such as BSA Lifeguard, Scuba BSA, etc. Scouts may be placed in a troop that is supervised by full time staff whose only job is to ensure that the Scouts' week at camp is the best it can be. The Scout brings all his personal gear and the summer camp typically provides everything else. The provisional troop is made up of boys from across a local council and is a great opportunity to meet new friends and experience summer camp in a whole new way. Alternately, Scouts may also be placed with Troops already in camp. All boys are to abide by the leadership of the Troop they are assigned and the camp staff. They must be registered in the Boy Scouts of America and bring a properly completed medical and consent to treatment form to camp and comply with all other rules. |

Onterora Scout Reservation3 Old Hunter Rd Livingston Manor NY 12758 Onteora Scout Reservation is located in Livingston Manor, New York. The camp consists of 1,400 acres (6 km2) and adjoins the Catskill State Forest Preserve. It was opened in 1955 due to overcrowding in Camp Wauwepex. At its peak in the early seventies, it was the nation's third largest Boy Scout Camp in terms of attendance (after Philmont and Ten Mile River,) accommodating 1200 Scouts at a time utilizing two dining halls and three water fronts. It was closed in 1991 and reopened in 1998 with a completely volunteer staff, and in 2003 opened for a full season with a paid staff. It is the only Boy Scout camp to have been closed, and then reopened. Onteora Scout Reservation is a Boy Scout Camp owned by the Theodore Roosevelt Council. It is nicknamed "The Land in the Sky." It is located in Livingston Manor, New York. It consists of 1400 Acres of forest. Its lake is named Orchard Lake because it is an old orchard that was flooded. The property on which the Reservation is located has a long and rich history, which begins with the Lenni-Lenape Indians. They used the Sun Trail to go from the Hudson River to the Delaware. The Sun Trail ran from Hudson River to the East Branch of the Delaware and was so called because an Indian or scout could start running at sun-up and reach the other end by sun-down. Later that same trail was enlarged by John Hunter and in 1815 became known throughout the area as the Hunter Road. Since it was the first road in the area, many traders and farmers made great use of it. In 1880s the property became one of the favorite fishing spots of the area and a man named Todd Hammond built a large manor house on the property overlooking the lake and developed the lake and streams for trout fishing. In 1911, the Orchard Lake Club was formed by New York City businessmen who purchased the property to enjoy the trout fishing and beauty of the woods. By the turn of the century, what is now the Al Nassau area of the Reservation was then a small town consisting of five houses, a logging camp and a mill for the Resherif Lumber Company. To this day, the foundations of the houses and mill can be seen. During the "Roaring 20’s" the area was the property of the New York Trout and Skeet Club. Many people came to the area from the city to fish and vacation. During WWII, however, due to the rationing of gasoline, the club was forced out of business. When put up for sale in 1942, the club was bought by Mr. Charles R. Vose for $20,000. He used it as a private retreat until 1956 when the Nassau County Council bought the property with the help of a donation from Mr. Alfred H. Capery. Many generations of Scouts and Scouters have enjoyed the property since its purchase and the establishment of the base camp in 1956. Many of the buildings were constructed between 1958 and 1962. It is the only Scout Reservation to close and then reopen. |

Set in what seems like an endless track of mountain trails, clear streams, and waterfalls is an amazing program of activities for Scouts to enjoy for their summer camp experience. Founded in 1957 by a joint effort between the Valley Forge and Philadelphia Councils to create a huge parcel of land for scouts to use for generations to come. Although the Valley Forge Council would become the sole propreitior of the property in 1965, these same two councils would merge in 1996 creating the Cradle of Liberty Council where Scouts from Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties would once again find themselves stewards of this wilderness treasure. The Council would later enter into a land trust agreement preserving the property forever as an undeveloped forest for Scouting use. In 2007, Resica Falls celebrated its 50th summer season of scout camping. Since its founding, tens of thousands of Scouts have enjoyed an experience among the hidden natural treasures creating memories that will last a lifetime. |

Sequassen Scout ReservationCamp Sequassen is located at 791 West Hill Road in New Hartford, Connecticut. It is a Boy Scout camp operated by the Connecticut Yankee Council and is mainly used for summer camp. During the summer, it becomes a Boy Scout resident camp for over 1,700 boys from across New England. It is the "sister camp" to Camp Workeoman operated by the Connecticut Rivers Council across the road. Troops from around Connecticut and neighboring states stay at Camp Sequassen for a week. While staying there, Scouts are able to work on rank requirements and take Merit Badge classes while being instructed by well-trained staff members. All three meals are served at the English Dining Hall near Clark Field. Here, the Scouts are served breakfast at 8:00, lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 6:00. At open program from 3-5 and 7-8 or in between classes, Scouts can stop at various fun and enjoyable places. One of these places is the Trading Post. This is a small scouting store operated by Sequassen staff. It is well known for the slushies and candy sold there, but also offers other merchandise such as Sequassen frisbees, shirts, hats and patches. At the waterfront, scouts can go swimming or take boats such as canoes, kayaks and row boats out into West Hill Pond. Also, Platt Field, located in North Sequassen, is where Scouts can participate in rifle shooting and archery. Very close to Platt Field, shotgun shooting is available for older Scouts near Scout Craft. There is also a handicrafts center near the waterfront where woodcarving, paintings and metalwork is possible. At the Nature Center called "Eco" (located in Cohen Lodge), Scouts can enjoy creative, fun and educational programs such as catching insects at the "Bug Wall" and learning about glaciation in "Tasty Geology". While staying at Sequassen, absolutely no one is allowed to cross over West Hill Road to get from one half of the camp to the other. Instead, all Scouts, staff and adult leaders use the Godfrey-Morris tunnel that goes under West Hill Road. None of the staff members tolerate horse play and it is encouraged that everybody takes a shower at one point during the week at the shower house located near Clark Field. |
